Actor Vishal was attacked a short while back at the South Indian Film Artistes Association (SIAA) or Nadigar Sangam voting venue on Radhakrishnan Salai in Chennai on Sunday.

People were reportedly pushing the actors who were standing in line to vote. Those present at the venue have tweeted on social media that actress Sangeetha was attacked by current Nadigar Sangam President Sarath Kumar.

Actress Sangeetha told Pudhiya Thalamurai TV that Sarath Kumar used foul language against her and came to hit her. She said Vishal and VIkranth came to her rescue immediately.

Vishal was allegedly attacked and beaten by people from the opposite faction and had to get first aid. One of the men who allegedly hit Vishal was an aide of Sarath Kumar stated Sangeetha. Vishal is said to have felt faint but recovered in a while. Referring to Sarath Kumar, Sangeetha said on TV, "I never expected the leader to behave like this... I feel very ashamed."

After recovering, a harried Vishal told the media present that irrespective of what happens the Nadigar Sangam elections will not be cancelled. He said, “Let them attack me but please don’t attack the actresses who have come to vote. The police is now giving extra protection to the actresses who have come to vote. I know who attacked me and I will give all the details after 5 pm once the voting is over.”

Meanwhile Superstar Rajinikanth has stated that the SIAA should be renamed as Tamil Nadu Nadigar Sangam while Kamal Haasan has said it should be named as Indian Nadigar Sangam.
