Mocking Mumbai police has proved costly for actor Ajaz Khan, who was arrested on Thursday for making and posting objectionable videos on social media that "promote enmity between religious groups".

The latest from the former Bigg Boss contestant is a repost of an eight-month-old video where he and another TikTok face, Faisu, can be seen taunting Mumbai police and a Shiv Sena activist for filing FIRs against social media stars. The video shows Khan asking, 'Ramesh Solanki, Warrant laya kya?', which is a dialogue from a Hindi film.

It was Solanki who had filed a police complaint on July 9 against a group of TikTok influencers – Faisal Shaikh, Hasnain Khan, Faiz Baloch, Adnan Shaikh and Sadhan Faroqui – for instigating revenge over the lynching of Tabrez Ansari.

Earlier, on June 28, Khan had posted a video in which he urged 40 crore Muslims to take to the streets to protest lynching. In this video, Khan blames RSS and Bajrang Dal for "forcing people to chant Jai Shri Ram". He also accuses Prime Minister Narendra Modi of shielding them.

When contacted, Shiv Sena's Solanki said, "One should realise that no one is above the law. Ajaz posted communal videos. There were many complaints against him and am glad that he is arrested. Hoping that the case against the other Tiktok influencers are also dealt seriously."

Ajaz has been charged under under Sections 153 A and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Section 153A deals with 'promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, language, etc,'. Section 67A of the IT Act deals with 'publishing and transmitting obscene material in electronic form'.

It is not for the first time that the actor has made headlines. Last year, he was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai police for possessing banned narcotic substance – eight ecstasy (MDMA) tablets.
