Adapting Shakespeare’s works on silver screen has always been a tough task. The closest in Bollywood was Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2003 flick Maqbool and Omkara. Now, a new challenge has been taken up by the trio of Tigmanshu Dhulia, Goldie Behl and Shrishti Arya who are presenting their version of Hamlet. And guess who is playing the pivotal character? If rumours are to be believed it’s none other than actor Abhishek Bachchan.

After the huge success of Paan Singh Tomar, all eyes are on Tigmanshu. Buzz is he is re-uniting with the producer duo of Goldie Behl and Shrishti Arya, after almost a decade.  The filmmakers now will apparently team up for an idea they discussed while working on their debut film Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai in 2001. A source tells us, “While penning the dialogues of the 2001 Abhishek starrer, Tigmanshu discussed the idea of doing an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet in Hindi and Goldie loved the idea then. But somehow it didn’t work out till now. Ten years later the trio has decided to come together and go ahead with the adaptation. And since Abhishek is so close to Goldie and his family, he will be the first choice. Most of Goldie’s films feature Abhishek and keeping in mind the close bond they share, Abhishek will most likely portray the tragic hero’s role.”

Tigmanshu says, “Goldie and I had planned to make Hamlet when he made his debut with Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai or which I wrote the dialogues. I guess every film has its destiny and we could not do it back then. But Hamlet has risen again and now we will translate the tragic hero’s story on screen.”

Goldie adds, “Tigmanshu and I go back a long way. We started our careers around the same time, so it feels great that he’s working with us again but this time as a director. We both are very passionate about adapting Hamlet as it’s the ultimate revenge drama.” The filmmakers refused to reveal the actor who will play Hamlet, saying that it’s too early to talk about casting.
