Abhayanand – The Cop with a Chalk is a docudrama that traces the journey of former Director General of Police (DGP), Bihar, Abhayanand and his contribution to society as a policeman and as an educationist.

It was during Abhayanand's tenure as SP of Aurangabad, Bihar that a handful of policemen managed to infiltrate a Naxal group that later led to the arrest of approximately a 100 operatives. His way of functioning also put Naxals and Maoists, in the state, on the back foot. In the year 2006, his idea to absorb and hire ex-army jawans into the policing system yielded extraordinary results. Soon, other states in the country started following a similar module to increase the manpower in their policing system and counter criminal activities.

Apart from coming up with innovative ideas to improve the law and order situation in the state, Abhayanand also encouraged education of the girl child much before 2015's Beti Bachao  Beti Padhao campaign found widespread media coverage and political and social support. He encouraged constables to send their girl child to a school that he'd opened in the Bihar Military Police campus, in 1994, during his tenure as DIG. Education and admission for girls in this school was imparted for free.

Years later, he conceptualised and co-founded Super 30 to help underprivileged kids crack the Prestigious IIT entrance exams. This time, apart from academic mentor-ship, food and stay was also provided for free. In 2008, when all 30 students cleared the engineering exams, Abhayanand parted ways with his Super 30 co-founder and took the social initiative to other cities and states. Today more than 2000 children from economically poor backgrounds have made it to the IIT and other prestigious engineering institutes due to his academic mentorship. What’s more, this year Abhayanand Super 30 produced two toppers in the Guwahati zone, Shashi ranked third and Keshav ranked fifth.

Says writer-director, Sujit K. Singh, “My docudrama is not based on self-proclamation or media reports but on the testimony of real people and factual reports."

The filmmaker, while researching for the film, came across an interesting incident that took place in 2011. The Patna High Court asked Abhayanand to intervene and resolve a problem pertaining to CBSE Board Exam Class 12 Mathematics. The court specifically said that the appointment of Abhayanand was not on the basis of the rank that he held but due to the track and field record as well as the reputation he enjoyed in teaching and educational field in the state.

"This speaks volumes about Abhayanand's credibility and knowledge of Science and Mathematics. Also, why don't others who claim to be geniuses expand their coaching centres and provide free food, stay and academic mentorship to the needy, like Abhayanand? What’s stopping them?” asks Sujit, who came across startling facts during his shoot in and around Patna. The filmmaker hopes that the audience will be able to see a different side of a man who doesn't believe in blowing his own trumpet, rather, lets his work do all the talking. Like all true visionaries do.
