Aamir Khan ended last year on a high note with his action thriller Dhoom:3 that only got cash registers jingling but also re-wrote box office records. And now Mr Perfectionist is back to end 2014 on the same note. The versatile actor will be seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s directorial venture PK co-starring Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani and Sushant Singh Rajput. The last time when Aamir and Hirani came together they gave us 3 Idiots which turned out to be a blockbuster. So naturally expectations are sky high from their second collaboration as well.

But will PK be a money spinner or will it just satiate our critics’ appetite? Well, Rajkumar Hirani films have always been about the masses and classes both so there is no doubt that PK is going to pull in crowd to the cinema halls. In fact, it will rake in big moolah at the ticket windows as well but unlike Dhoom:3, this Aamir starrer is not going to be one of those films which will be on record-breaking spree.

We asked exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi if PK will break opening day record of Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year and here’s what he said, “I don’t see it becoming the highest opener. Its not a colloquial soda bottle kind of film which has a big opening and than fizzles out. It will have good first day, second day will be even better and third day better than that. In fact, it will have a great first week and will go on to have a super fourth week. PK is lambi race ka ghoda…it will go the 3 Idiots way. Even their promotional campaign…they are not going all out. They are backing on the merit of their film’s content and that also speaks volumes about their confidence.”

While talking to a portal, producer-distributor R Pachisia  said, “The advance booking is going very well, and I think, the opening day will be around Rs 27- 28 crore and the weekend collections will be around Rs 80-85 crore.” So even if PK doesn’t become the highest opener of 2014, it will surely get cash registers jingling.

Well, we even asked Rathi if Aamir and Anushka’s film will become the highest grosser in Bollywood, to this he quickly replied, “It has the potential to become the highest grosser of all time.” He further added, ” The subject of film is not out so Aamir and Rajkumar Hirani haven’t played their triumph card but that’s the strategy. As for the promotions, its always better to not over commit and under deliver. Aamir is know to be a marketing genius and he has playing all the cards right. You will go in expecting a cute…sweet comedy beacuse that’s what the trailer and songs have portrayed but you will be surprised when you go inside the theater and watch the film.”
