Little did anyone know that Aamir Khan's latest release PK which opened to a decent Rs 26 crore on its first day will go on to beat the previous records he made with Dhoom 3. But he did and how!

PK which did not break any opening day records and had a relatively lower opening of Rs 26 crore managed to hold its ground and maintain a constant pace at the box office to become one of the biggest blockbusters of 2014. Aamir who had previously recorded a staggering first week collections of over Rs 175 crore with Dhoom 3 beat his own record by overtaking it with PK.

The film scaled high in the weekends and maintained a constant pace during the weekdays earning in the range of Rs 20 crore averagely each day therefore. While other films usually witness a sharp drop during the weekdays, Aamir's PK did not witness such a big drop and given that Thursday was a Christmas holiday, collections scaled right up.

PK earned around Rs 30 crore on Christmas and with that, the total collections in the first week itself has turned out to be a mammoth Rs 183 crore which has helped it emerge as the biggest blockbuster of 2014. Now, its a given that the film will easily surpass Shah Rukh Khan's Happy New Year collections (Rs 203 crore) and Salman Khan's Kick (Rs 233 crore) and emerge as the biggest blockbuster of the year.

If the film continues to rake in good moolah and knowing that it still has two more weeks of almost free run at the box office, without much of a competition, PK might also surpass Dhoom 3's lifetime record which is around Rs 280 crore. Who knows like the 100 and 200 crore club, Aamir might yet again introduce the 300 crore club in Bollywood!
