Aamir Khan adopts 2 drought-hit villages in Maharashtra

Bollywood star Aamir Khan on Tuesday adopted the villages of Tal and Koregaon in Maharashtra's drought-plagued region to support and uplift them, according to reports.

Khan currently took a tour of the region to teach the villagers how to conserve water, as per Times Now reports.

This is not the first time that the PK star has done this. Khan had adopted villages in Kutch in Gujarat after the worst earthquake ever in 2001. As part of the water conservation awareness campaign, the superstar had also recently visited Beed from Aurangabad, one of the three worst affected districts in Maharashtra where he applauding Maharashtra government's Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan.

"The water issue in Maharashtra is worsening every passing day. To tackle this problem permanently, we have to give preference to the success of Jal Yukta Shivar and similar projects," Aamir had then said while addressing a programme organized by Pani Foundation.

Earlier, Akshay Kumar had donated Rs 50 lakh for Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan to extend his support to the drought-hit regions in Maharashtra. 

The Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan is aimed at making the villages drought-proof and will also involve construction of ponds in farms to harvest water.

Maharashtra is currently going through the one of the worst drought situation in history. Out of 43,000 villages in the state, 27,723 villages have been declared drought-hit and 54 out of the 75 medium dams have been declared dry.
