Most of the celebrities in recent times have been staying away from Krushna Abhishek-Bharti Singh’s Comedy Nights Bachao, that has the format of a ‘roast’ — where they trade insults — to promote their films. However, we hear it’s the other Krushna show Comedy Nights Live  (CNL) that is actually having a problem getting celebs on the show.

Says a source, “Since its inception, CNL has been having difficulties getting celebs on the show. Even the TRPs are not encouraging. However, despite its format, Comedy Nights Bachao is doing well, so the makers are now thinking of shutting down Live and keeping only Bachao. They are also planning to tone down the insults so that celebs will come on the show.”

When contacted, Krushna said that they have always drawn the lines and never gone overboard. “We have had actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan coming on the show. Deepika Padukone has appeared twice, even SRK has said he will come to promote Raees, as he likes the show.”

However, the Dishoom team — John Abraham, Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez stayed away from the show. Even Akshay Kumar will not be going to promote Rustom, but will appear on The Kapil Sharma Show.

Same with Hrithik Roshan who is gearing up to promote Mohenjo Daro. But Krushna maintains that Akshay is a friend and he hasn’t said no to him. “We will tone it down (the roast format)  if actors are not comfortable. We want them to come on our show. There’s a possibility of shooting an episode with Akshay on August 7 or 14. As for Hrithik, his film is such that it may not jell with our show, so he may not come.”

Bharti adds, “Kuch log darte hai. But nothing is done without giving the guests a brief. They know what is going to happen. You should ask people who have come on the show. They have enjoyed it.”

When asked if Comedy Nights Live is shutting down, Krushna denies it. “Kapil’s team is spreading such news. First they said Bachao is shutting down, but the show is doing good consistently. Now, they are saying Live is shutting down.”

Bharti on her part agrees that the ratings of Bachao are better than Live, which is now aired once a month. “That’s only because Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9 has taken that slot. Once Jhalak is over, everything will be back to how it was before.”
