A merry Christmas for Cinderella

We have all grown up reading the age-old classic, Cinderella — the story of the charming beautiful girl who is ill-treated by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. Till one day, she is paid a surprise visit by Santa! Yes, you read that right.. Not a fairy godmother, but a fairy godfather! 

This Cinderella story set during the season of Christmas is all about hope, joy, cheer and love, and not to forget.., magic! Essaying the central character in this all-time classic adapted by Vishaal Asrani and Jiji Subi is Tia Advani. The ninth-grader from BD Somani International School, Mumbai is super excited to play this role. The youngster debuted on the professional stage just two months ago, playing the lead role of Dorothy in an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz by Vishaal Asrani’s Institute of Performing Arts. 

A trained ballet dancer, Tia is all set to play a character diametrically different from her own persona. The most challenging aspect for her has been managing her time between school and rehearsals. Talking about her, Vishaal Asrani, Director, VAIPA, says, “Tia is like clay. She adapts beautifully to the character she portrays on stage and her biggest strength as an actor at this age, is her malleability and willingness to learn.”

This fun Christmas musical opens on Saturday, Nov 24 at 5 pm and Sunday, November 25 at 12 pm at Sophia Auditorium, Breach Candy, December 1 and 2 at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir.
