A young girl gets murdered. The main suspects are her parents. Sounds familiar? It seems to echo the Aarushi Talwar murder case which rocked Delhi in 2008. Manish Gupta's Rahasya which puts the murdered girl's parents in the dock does not claim to be based in the Talwars' trial and conviction.

According to reliable sources the film's producers were approached by sources close to the Talwars to make the film from the parents' perspective. "But the producers and the director didn't want to lose the objective perspective in the plot. They declined the offer to make the film in collaboration with the Talwars," says a source.

The director repudiates all likeness between his film and the real-life murder case. "Our film Rahasya is a murder mystery. It's a straightforward whodunit. If you are familiar with the novels of Agatha Christie you'll know what to expect in Rahasya. There is a murder and there are a number of suspects. And there's a Hercule Poirot-like investigative officer played by K K Menon."
