Romeo + Juliet

The Baz Luhrmann version of William Shakespeare's classic Romeo and Juliet saw Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes play the star-crossed lovers. The film received a fairly positive review, even bagging awards at smaller film fests. While the dialogue was mostly old fashioned, modern aspects included using guns instead of swords.

Space Jam

The sports comedy flm that featured Michael Jordan along with several Looney Tunes characters was a total crowd pleaser. In fact, it was said to be the highest grossing basketball film of all time and the third highest-grossing sports film.

Fargo

The Oscar-winning black comedy starred Frances McDormand and William H Macy in the lead roles. It later inspired FX television series by the same name and was considered one of the best movies of that time. It told the story of a Minnesota police chief who's working on a case where a car salesman has hired criminals to kidnap his wife.

Scream

The horror flick revolved around the story of Sidney, a high school girl who following the death of her mother, becomes the target of a mystery murderer. The cast included David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Skeet Ulrich, and Drew Barrymore. The film did well at the box office, prompting makers to release two sequels Scream 2 and Scream 3.

Jerry Maguire

This Tom Cruise- Renee Zellweger starrer based on the life of a sports agent received critical reviews for its fine acting and script. The film was nominated for five Oscars as well as three Golden Globes, with Cuba Gooding Jr winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Mission: impossible

The action spy film starred Tom Cruise in the lead role as Ethan Hunt who's on a mission to clear his name after he's framed for the murders of his colleagues from the IMF team. MI was hugely successful at the box office and has spun several sequels as well.

Evita

This musical film was based on the life of Eva Peron, Argentina's first lady who abruptly died at the age of 33. The lead role was beautifully portrayed by Madonna with Antonio Banderas also playing a part in this flick that grossed $141,047,179 worldwide. It was nominated for five Academy Awards and took home the award for Best Original Song.

Independence day

This sci-fi film starring Will Smith, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum grossed more than $800 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of the year. It followed the story of a group of humans who have to try and save Earth from alien invasion. The film was particularly noteworthy for its special effects and fast pace.
