You win some, you lose some. That holds true not just in life, but also in love. So while there are many love stories where guy and girl meet and live happily ever after, there are those where guy meets girl and gets turned down. And yes, it happens to girls, too. Some of the most glamorous ladies have been turned down by men who didn’t fall prey to their charms. Here are some of our favourite friendzone stories...
She is the carefree, penniless girl, he is a nerd, who has lost his job. They get married under the influence of alcohol. While he falls in love with her, she only thinks of him as a friend. This Bollywood movie surprised everyone because it wasn’t a love triangle and yet the leading pair did not end up together in the end.
Pyaar mein junoon hai, par dosti mein sukoon hai, that’s what Anushka Sharma tells Ranbir Kapoor when he talks about wanting to take their friendship to the next level. He even goes to her wedding, sings a song, and then takes care of her when she is diagnosed with a terminal illness. And despite all that, she doesn’t let him escape the friendzone.
She is the tomboy who falls in love with her buddy. Everyone around the two, knows that she loves him, but he never realises it. It does sound a bit like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, but her girlie avatar doesn’t change the equation. This girl knows how to move on without holding any grudges.
Two guys — Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham — pretend to be gay to get cheap accommodation. The problem, however, is the hot houseowner, who they fall for. After many twists and turns, she gets to know that these men are straight, but she doesn’t pick either of them. Bobby Deol walks away with PC at the end in this caper. The movie was liked a lot and there was talk about a sequel. Unfortunately, many years have passed, but it hasn’t materialised yet.
She dances like a dream, looks gorgeous, but is not the girl he dreams of. Shah Rukh friendzoned Karisma and instead romanced Madhuri Dixit. This grown-up take on love saw Karisma accepting the fact and playing a supportive friend. And though she didn’t get the hero, she won a National Award for this movie.
This comic caper saw two men fall in love with a doctor. While Govinda played Juhi Chawla’s patient, Anil Kapoor played a con artist. They make various attempts to woo the object of their affection. While both dress up to marry the lady in question, she walks away with Salman Khan in the end.
While SRK friendzoned Karisma in Dil Toh Pagal Hai, he couldn’t escape it either. Early in his career, he played the lovable Sunil, who is in love with Anna (Suchitra Krishnamoorti). However, she has her heart set on Chris (Deepak Tijori). He tries various tricks to get her to marry him, but nothing works. In the end, Juhi Chawla walks in when he is sitting alone. Where there’s love, there’s hope, right?
