Salman convict: 7 celebrities who have served jail time

But Salman is not the first celebrity to be handed out a jail term. Here is the list of celebrities who did their time behind the bars

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was on Wednesday handed a five-year jail term by a Mumbai sessions court after being found guilty of all charges in the 2002 hit-and-run case. Salman still has right to appeal in high court.

But Salman is not the first celebrity to be handed out a jail term. 

Here is the list of celebrities who did their time behind the bars - 

Rober Downey Jr - In the year 1999, Iron Man star was handed down a three-year probation sentence for trespassing into a neighbour's home and falling asleep on a bed there while high. Following the sentence, he missed a mandatory drug test which landed him in jail for one year of that three year sentence.

Paris Hilton - The famous hotel heiress was pulled over for speeding and driving without a license. The court put her on probation and ordered her to enrol in rehab program. Hilton was put in jail for three days followed by 40 days of home monitoring.

Roman Polanski - In March 1977, Roman Polanski was arrested for sexual assault of 13-year-old Samantha Geimer. The director pleaded guilty and was then awarded 90 days of psychiatric evaluation at California Institution for Men at Chino. He was released from prison after 42 days. After that Poplanski fled to France. The case is still going on.

50 cent - In 1994, police found heroin, crack-cocaine and a gun in rappers home. 50 Cent was awarded 6 months in shock incarceration boot camp.

Martha Stewart - Stewart was accused of corporate fraud and then was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of proceeding and making false statements. She served  five months in jail followed by two years of supervised release.

Mark Wahlberg - The Fighter star was  charged with attempted murder and assault after attacking a man ion the street and knocking him unconscious with a large wooden stick. He served 45 days of two year sentence.

Sanjay Dutt - Often considered a pal to Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt was convicted of possession of illegal arms in the 1993 Mumbai blast case. His sentence was reduced from six to five years in jail. Out of these five years, Dutt had already spent 18 months in jail. He is now serving rest of the 3 years and 6 months sentence in a jail in Yerwada, Pune.
