The 65th National Film Awards held on May 3 this year created controversy after nearly 60 awardees boycotted the prestigious ceremony as a mark of protest due to the angst that culminated, when they learned that President Ram Nath Kovind shall present only 11 of the awards.

The rest of the awards were handed over by former Union Information & Broadcasting (I&B) minister Smriti Irani and Member of Lok Sabha (MOS) Rajyavardhan Rathore.

Many of the winners were disappointed by this and boycotted the ceremony and are still waiting for their medals and citation. Praveen Morchhale who bagged the award for Best Film (Ladakhi), Best Sound Design and Best Re-recording for the film Walking with the Wind, was among the awardees who decided to skip the ceremony.

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Morchhale said that he didn’t ‘boycott’  or disrespect anyone, but simply skipped it. However, the pit is still on fire. Now, over a month late, Morchchale and many others who missed the ceremony, haven't received their medals and citation yet.

Commenting on the same Morchchale told Mirror, “While I have not officially enquired into the matter, I’m in touch with the other awardees who did not attend the ceremony. A few among them did make some calls to the clerical staff and they were unofficially told that the ministry has yet to arrive at a decision on whether the medal and citation should be couriered to us, we should collect it from the regional offices or have a representative pick it up from Delhi. There have been no calls or emails, no official communication of any kind since May 3.”

On the other hand, an I&B Ministry official said that the winners have received their award money and will get their medals in due course.

Well, it looks like there is a lot of confusion in the air even after a month of National Film Awards 2018 ceremony.
