While B-Town has had many baap-beta jodis working together, few have proved to be as consistently successful as Rakesh and Hrithik Roshan.

Right from Raj Kapoor, who worked with son Randhir, Rishi and Rajeev, to Ranbir Kapoor sharing screen space with dad Rishi, many filmi families have been on the big screen together. Soon, Sunny Deol will be directing son Karan in his debut movie. Hrithik, too, was introduced by his dad on the big screen. Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai released in 2000 and fans continue to celebrate the movie every year on its release date. The film did great business and won maximum number of awards to be given to a movie, for which it was featured in The Limca Book of Records.

The two then sucessfully launched India’s first superhero, Krrish. It began with Koi Mil Gaya. The franchise grew stronger with Krrish and Krrish 3. Now, they have collaborated on Kaabil, which releases on January 25. This time around, Rakesh takes charge as the producer, while the directorial reins have been handed to Sanjay Gupta. Says Roshan Sr, “Hrithik and I work as a team. On the set, both of us are professionals. We are fully aware of the father-son equation at all times.  But, the beauty of our combination is that when it comes to a film, we are so perceptive and aligned in our thought process, that it almost always works for the betterment of our film. Take Kaabil for instance. Every time there was a dilemma, I found Hrithik and I were thinking on similar lines. Even Sanjay was in alignment with us at all times.”

About why he loves working with his son, the filmmaker adds, “Hrithik has worked as an assistant on my films before he became my lead actor. He therefore knows my cinema as well as I do. Also, he is one of the most disciplined and talented actors I have worked with. Naturally, I have now grown dependent on him for all my movies.  This is not so much a personal thing as it is also a professional thing — as father and son, we have consistently proved that our combination works as much at home as it does at the box-office.’’
