After public outcry over Maratha Mandir deciding to stop screening of iconic SRK-Kajol film 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, authorities have decided to extend its run-time for one more week. According to news reports, Maratha Mandir authorities received nearly 250 phone calls from viewers expressing their disappointment. Manoj Desai, Managing director of Maratha Mandir has been quoted as saying that the movie will be screened for another week more and then final call will be taken after consulting producer Yashraj Movies.

Such is the outpouring of emotions, that DDLJ will be screened in its usual timing of 11:30 AM for this week.  Post the 1000 week celebrations last December, the theatre had requested YRF to prepone the DDLJ morning show to 9:15 AM instead of 11:30 AM as it was becoming difficult for the cinema to accommodate multiple new releases every week with just 3 regular shows.

An official press release said on Thursday, " While the theatre management was happy to continue the film for as long as it continued to draw in the audiences, owing to logistical issues of their staff having to work inordinately long hours to accommodate an additional early morning show, it was mutually decided to end the films historic & record breaking run"

Maratha Mandir and YRF had come together to celebrate the 1000 week run of the film in a huge manner last December. Although there were initial reports of the film being pulled down in October, Manoj Desai, owner of Maratha Mandir had refuted all such rumours, calling them baseless.

As soon as the news broke on social media, Maratha Mandir and Evergreen DDLJ started trending. Looks like the love of fans have given the film a new lease of life even after 20 years of its release.
