Bollywood actor Salman Khan has filed a defamation case against a TV news channel for damages worth Rs 100 crore. In his suit filed in the Bombay High Court, Salman has claimed that a sting operation conducted by the channel in the 1998 Chinkara poaching case was defamatory and malicious. Salman has also demanded that the channel be restrained from making public any part of the said sting operation in any manner.

As per a report published in the Hindustan Times, the channel claims that, in the sting operation, "witnesses claimed they saw Khan shoot the endangered chinkaras in Jodhpur”. The report further adds that later those very witnesses turned hostile and alleged that the video was doctored.

For those unfamiliar with the case, Salman Khan was accused of poaching the endangered species of Chinkaras on the outskirts of Jodhpur in Rajasthan on two instances dated September 26 and 28, 1998 while shooting for his film Hum Saath Saath Hain.

The channel has reportedly maintained that the video in question has already been erased along with the script of the sting operation and other related material. As per reports that are doing the rounds, both the parties had submitted affidavits in a hearing earlier this month and told the court that they were in the process of working out a settlement.

The matter will be heard by Justice SJ Kathawalla, who's presiding over the case, on November 18.
