Unhappy with the board's decision, Bhandarkar says such things are part of life and should be allowed to be reflected in a realistic portrayal of life in an Indian prison.

The Fashion director wanted a 'U/A' certificate for Jail; however, for this, he will also have to do away with a sequence showing frontal nudity filmed on lead actor Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Bhandarkar says his earlier film, Chandni Bar, had more explicit scenes, but that film was passed with an 'A' certificate.

Do you think films such as Jail, which deal with adult themes, should be cleared for non-adult audiences?

No, the preview is so depressing, the whole movie will be even more depressing. I don't recommend this for children.
