No politicking on my birthday, says Ekta Kapoor

Soap queen-and-producer  Ekta Kapoor plans to have a holy start to her birthday on June 7. The starmaker is off to Tirupati where she hopes to get an early morning darshan of Balaji. “There’s no better way to celebrate,” says Ekta as we catch up for a quick chat with her en route to Tirupati…

What’s your plan for the day?
Well, I am going to Tirupati with my family and will return home by afternoon post the darshan. In the evening, I just want to chill with my family and a couple of my close friends. My birthdays have always been huge bashes every year. And this year, thanks to Vidya (Balan) and The Dirty Picture, it’s anyways been one non-stop celebration for me (laughs). So, for a change I will just take it easy today I guess.

But you are having a big bash on the 9th?
That’s not a bash, it’s just a dinner with a bunch of my close friends from the industry and also outside. Many of them are going to be away today for an awards event, also 9th is a Saturday so we will just get together then.

A formal sit-down power dinner?
I haven’t had any time to plan any such formal dinner, so it will just be a fun get together. I have just returned from a holiday and there’s so much to catch up work-wise, that planning the party is the last thing on my mind.

Aren’t birthday bashes almost becoming statement-making events in Bollywood…
I don’t know about that. For me it’ll always be a special time when you are surrounded by love and your loved ones. No politicking on my birthday please. I hope to keep all of that away from my personal celebrations. So camps, frenemies, this that, I don’t get into at all. If you are a close friend, you are in, that’s all.

So what’s on your birthday wishlist?
First of all, I hope to lose more weight by my next birthday
(laughs) and be more healthy. That apart, I wish to have atleast three big ticket releases next year. Yes, so overall, I hope it’s a happy and healthy year.

What about marriage?
I feel married to my work already. Honestly time kahaan hai (laughs).

What’re the plans on the workfront?
Loads of them. First there’s Kya Superkool Hain Hum and then Shootout At Wadala. I also hope to have three films on the floor soon including the sequels of Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai and Ragini MMS. On TV too, there’s lots happening and I’m also working on the hitsorical we hope to start soon. If it falls in place, hopefully I will be celebrating all of next year too (smiles).
