She is biased towards women and Ambika Hinduja makes no bones about it. Ask her why, and the Hinduja scion says she has her own ‘quirky reason’ for it.
“You know something? Apart from the usual cliché of multi-tasking, I feel that women are deeper. Well, by the word deeper, I mean that women pay heed to intricate details while doing any work which I feel men lack. That is why I decided that after Being Cyrus, I will only work with a woman (Leena Yadav was the director of the film). So even in my next movie, I am teaming up with Leena. It’s okay if I am biased towards women, I have my reasons for it,” she says.
After her marriage to Raman Macker in February 2009 — one of the most talked about marriages in town — she decided to disappear from the horizon.
“With my film Teen Patti being shot with the two legends of world cinema (Sir Ben Kingsley and Amitabh Bachchan), things got too hectic for me. I have never handled such a big project. I was too excited about it to think about anything else,” she says.
Tell her that every girl goes through a process of change after marriage and Ambika begs to differ. “Yeah, life after marriage is great. But marriage has not changed me one bit. If I have changed in the last two years, then it’s on the work front. I used to be very impatient two years ago. As a boss, I do get angry and hyper at times like everybody else, but I have sobered down a lot in these two years. Work has taught me a lot.”
Talking about her husband, Ambika says that she misses spending time with him due to her hectic schedule.
“Luckily, I have been with Raman for a long time now. I dated him for eight years before I got engaged to him. He is my biggest support line. The last two years things have been so hectic that I haven’t been able to spend the amount of time with him that I would have ideally wanted. But such is life! I can tell you that Raman and my dad (Ashok P Hinduja) are my closest confidantes when it comes to taking business decisions. I do go back to them every time when I need some advice. Raman is into the hospitality business. So, at some point of time, I would like to join him in his business and work with him,” Ambika says.
Give her a suggestion that she should have done a cameo in her own film and Ambika admits that she gets jittery in front of the lens. “I am not a very confident person in front of the camera. I am very critical of myself too. If you focus a camera on me, I start feeling conscious and shy. So, given a choice I would sit on my desktop rather than do an interview. And cameo? Absolutely not! Are you mad?” she ends.
