Actor Christian Bale whose forthcoming film Terminator Salvation is ready to hit the theatres soon, tells DNA that he misses his Batman co-star the late Heath Ledger.
You have acted in about 40 films. Is there a co-star who has managed to touch your heart?
Only one man...Heath Ledger, he was one of my few friends in the industry. Many times I'll work with actors and I can tell they're thinking, 'What are you doing? Why are you going that far with it?' or 'You're nuts!' With Heath, I could feel him going, 'I love it!' It felt like we were really pushing each other on. He was a good guy. There are not a lot of actors who I stay in touch with. But Heath was one of them.
You have been voted as one of the Most Creative People in Entertainment and Top 8 Most Powerful Cult Figures of the Past Decade. How do you keep your feet on the ground?
I take every success as a step towards the enhancement of my skills. But I never let this success and praise rule myself and I keep my feet grounded. I am thankful to God for giving me the honours.
What was the most challenging thing while filming Terminator Salvation?
This film is a war movie, set in a darker, post-apocalyptic future. Terminator Salvation takes place in 2018, 14 years after the nuclear attack that ended the previous Terminator trilogy. My flick is full of death-defying stunts. The biggest adrenaline rush was actually a dive I had to make down into a cavern space and I had to drop a fair distance for that.
Playing cult characters like James bond etc have limited an actor's profile as they get stereotyped. Were you apprehensive to play Batman given the same logic might be applicable?
Playing Batman doesn't limit my acting, rather it gives a unique edge to it. I am very comfortable to be recognised as Batman.
What is Christian's sex appeal? What about a woman turns you on?
I feel my sex appeal is my perfectionist attitude towards my profession and life and the thing which attracts me in a woman is her sense of humour and caring nature.
Describe yourself in one sentence.
I am a low maintenance, normal guy and always face every phase of my life head on and never try to back with fear.
You seem to have got it ALL. Anything you still crave for?
I want to live a normal life like a common man because I do everything myself. I go to the supermarket myself, the hardware store. It's something I would greatly miss...I would start to feel like a prisoner.
