Amy Adams talks about her film 'The Fighter'

Oscar-nominated Hollywood actress Amy Adams talks about her forthcoming film.

You have been nominated for the Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress category for your role as Charlene in the Oscar-nominated The Fighter. How was it playing the character?
She was a fun character to play, not only because she is tough, but also because she is able to get toe-to-toe with the tough guys and also be sweet to Mickey (Mark Wahlberg) at the same time. She is a girl who has worked really hard in her life, but has made some mistakes. She meets Mickey and feels that there is a lot of potential and sees his family is really pulling him down. She stands up for him and encourages him for being a man she knows he could be.

What attracted you to the role?
It was David O’ Russel (director). He sent me a 20-page script briefing me about my character. He asked me if I’d be interested in playing Charlene...and how could have I said ‘No’. I met David first and then Christan Bale, Mark Wahlberg and Mellisa Leo. I was the last one to come on board and join the gang. Instantly, I loved them all.

How was it working with Mark?
I have a lot of scenes with him, few are very intimate, but he never made anyone feel like he is the producer that he is. What I liked the most about him was how passionate and involved he was in the film.

It’s a boxing movie?
It’s so much more than just a boxing film. It’s a love story, it’s a real life story, and has family, drama, humour, laughter, tears. Boxing just adds element of energy that makes it really exciting when you watch the film.

What’s the movie all about?

It’s about Micky and his determination, his struggle to get where he is today. It’s about family, their struggle, it’s a story about life and what we all go through to get where we want to.

Who will this movie appeal to?
From the response that I’ve had, I think that it’s for everyone. Everyone is going to feel something different, but hopefully everyone is going to enjoy it. They will walk away wanting to see it again.
