Varun Dhawan: My career is going the Varun Dhawan way

The actor on being his own person and making career choices that work for him

Varun Dhawan: My career is going the Varun Dhawan way
Varun

With Dilwale’s release behind him, Varun Dhawan has begun shooting for his next film, helmed by brother Rohit Dhawan. Here, he talks about working with family, the possibility of working with Rohit Shetty again and his career graph, in general.

After Rohit Shetty, you’re working with  your brother Rohit. What would you say is the difference between them?
There are a lot of differences. I can’t compare my brother to Rohit Shetty, because my brother has just started out whereas Rohit Shetty has nine back-to-back blockbusters. Their sensibilities are different. That’s what is interesting, because I am going from Dilwale to Dhishoom and the movies are different, so it’s more fun and challenging. The audience will get to see a different shade to me next year.

Of the Khans, whose career graph do you think is similar to yours?
I think it’s too early because I have done just five films. Maybe after 10 or 15 films you could ask me where I am headed. But I hope my career is going the Varun Dhawan way and not anyone else’s. I am trying to make my choices that way, too.

Rumour has it that you are playing Lakhan in the Ram Lakhan remake.
No, I haven’t been offered that movie. I would love to work with Rohit sir again. But I think he has other plans for that film and my slate for next year is already full.

One biopic you’d like to do and why?
A biopic on my dad’s life. I feel I have been doing the research for that for the last 28 years. Whenever people ask me if there’s a biopic I would want to do, his is the name that comes to my mind.

Sriram Raghavan had said he’ll be doing a sci-fi movie with you next. Is that happening?
It is, hopefully. I am waiting for Sriram to give me the script. He is working on it right now.
