Parineeti Chopra wants to do commercial films now
Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra’s never done an out and out comedy. Golmaal Again will be her first attempt at the genre and she seems super comfortable and confident with the space already. Around 30 per cent of the film’s shoot is complete. The film was  shot in Hyderabad. We met Parineeti before she flew to Hyderabad and spoke to her at length about Golmaal Again, working with the mad team and the after effects of it. Read on...

Are you tired of talking about the break and the comeback?

But that is true, so what do I do? It is eventually a fact that I’m did a film after two long years. So whatever...

Somewhere in the last two years, did you ever feel you were losing out on films?

No, I was actually working so much. I was never sitting at home. I was busy doing all my ads, endorsements, etc. I was working on my body, fitness and health as well. So no, I never got the chance or the reason to feel that I was losing out on time.

After Meri Pyaari Bindu, you have Golmaal Again. How has it been?

It’s crazy. We are working with 14 senior, big actors who have been doing this for years. I feel so good that I get to be a part of such a franchise and be a Rohit Shetty heroine. That too in the i series, which is one of my personal favourites. It has been such an amazing experience so far because they are such a cool lot. They are always joking, playing, laughing and chilling. So it’s nice spending time with all of them.

Comedy they say is the toughest genre...

(Cuts in) It’s very true. Comedy is extremely tough.

This is your first out and out comedy although there was humour in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and Hasee Toh Phasee. How was the space?

It was very tough, actually. It took me a couple of days to get the sur and zone of the other actors. Then I realised that I have to trust my director and my co-actors because they have been part of this franchise and have experience of working in this genre. But it took me a couple of days to understand the difference in the performance that you need to have for these kind of films. But now I have got it and I want to do more commercial films because it’s so much fun to do them.

Ajay Devgn is a prankster. Have you fallen prey to his pranks?

Oh my God! (Laughs) It has already started and one prank has already happened. It is something to do with the story so I can’t really tell you what he did. But I am very scared because there are pranks going on all the time. Everyday you are on the set and you don’t know what’s going to happen to you.

You are not paired opposite Ajay in the film. Do you think today it’s easier to pair an older hero with a younger actress because it’s no more only the typical boy-girl romance angle?

Yeah, and it’s great that these kind of stories are coming. We are not limited by a romance angle for the heroine.

Have you been offered another film with an older hero post this?

(Pauses) I cannot talk about my other films right now.

Sanjay Dutt visited you guys on the sets of Golmaal Again. Is he actually doing a cameo?

He came to meet his best friend who is Ajay Devgn. In fact, we keep having somebody or the other coming over and all because they are veterans and that’s that.

Did you bond with Tabu as well?

Yeah, obviously. I know Tabu anyway because she, Farah (Khan), Sania (Mirza) and I — we chill a lot together. It was great now to have her as a co-star in Golmaal Again.

And Takadum? What’s the update on that?

Right now, we are not shooting that. I am going to finish Golmaal Again and then decide what to do next!
