Not a commitment-phobe anymore!: Ileana D'cruz

Happy Ending is quirky. Anything quirky comes with risks attached. Were you apprehensive before signing on for the film?
I did not actually feel any risk. In fact it was a really good offe because I always wanted to do a film with Saif. More than anything I feel I am incredibly lucky to have a role like this because it is as significant as the male lead of the film. So... no risk, whatsoever.

You were offered a film with Saif before...
Yes, I met a director after Barfi regarding a film with Saif. Somehow, that did not materialise. Plus, it was an incredibly brief meeting. So it was like a casual conversation about a film with Saif, which did not take place. And then Happy ending came about. This is the perfect film I would have loved to do with Saif. The role is brilliant and I am playing somebody who's quite a guy in the way she thinks. She does not believe in love or relationship and is extremely commitment phobic.

You're a commitment-phobe. Is that why you said yes to the film?
I was commitment phobic. Not anymore! (Laughs)

Most of your films have had two leading ladies. Afraid of being typecast?
There are just two films- Barfi and Main Tera Hero which are two heroine films. Rest of them are solo heroine films! I mean, let me give you an example. When I did Barfi, it really did not matter to me whether I was pitted alongside a popular heroine. People called it the worst possible choice for me and that it would not help my career at all. It did not matter to me. And as far as Main Tera Hero goes, I really liked the story and it was relevant to have another heroine in the film. That's how it worked as far as the story goes. I think, in this film again, we have a bigger combo for sure. There are a lot of actors but Happy Ending is a single heroine project. There is only one leading lady and one hero in the film. The rest are just supporting characters. Even if it was not a leading lady role, I would have done it if I believed in it. I would have been confident to pull off my role well. And if the presence of any other heroine affects your performance, I guess you are not doing it well enough!

Previously, you romanced younger heroes - Ranbir, Shahid and Varun. Now you are paired opposite Saif. How different was it with Saif?
The only difference was that the story of the film was totally different. The people were basically very different. Varun, for example, is this young chap with high energy and is almost like bouncing off the walls. Saif for a change is a more complete person because he's been around for so many years. He is more mature because he is older. It was a lot of fun. In fact every other I worked with be it Ranbir, Shahid, Varun or Saif, they have always been fun to work with, in their own little way..

In a recent interview, you also said that Saif is incredibly hard on himself...
Honestly, I don't actually remember saying that. I don't think I meant that. I was just misquoted, I believe!

And you also bonded really well with Kareena too.
We did not have any scenes together, but we kind of bonded off the set when she was staying there. I did not expect her to be a laidback person and hence, we met at a restaurant where we bonded really well. She is very chilled out without any hang-ups and I suppose that's how we got along.

After Saif, do you wish to do a film with the other big actors as well?
With Shah Rukh and Aamir? Well, I would be really stupid if I say I don't want to. Of course, I want to do a film with them. I mean, who would not want to do a film with them? (Laughs) I don't have a wishlist though and nothing to tick off. I like going with the flow. So I always wanted to do a film with Saif. It happened. Here I am... very happy with the way it has come out. Let's see. I would love to work with all of them- Shah Rukh, Aamir, Salman, everyone!

There were reports that you have already been cast opposite SRK in Fan. Have you signed the film?
No, I haven't and I haven't even been approached for it. I know nothing about how these rumours started.

Who is your biggest competition?
I think everyone is amazing in their own rights. No one is directly competition or a threat. Similarly, I might not be one to them as well. I prefer getting inspired by people who are good at what they do. Even if they are less successful, but are good at what they do, people love them. I am too sorted with my own life right now!

You are in a relationship. Getting married anytime soon?
I have never confirmed about being in a relationship! And about marriage, I don't know! If I do decide, I will let everyone know.
