"Easy, fun and glam,” that’s how Shweta Bachchan Nanda describes her newest offerings. She’s worn a travel jacket with airport-inspired insignias, camouflage sequins on the sleeves and cool patchworks on the pockets as I meet her at the store. Monisha, on the other hand, looks striking in a sequinned jumper, which has ‘fried’ emblazoned on it. Both looks pretty much sum up the glittery offerings, which stand out thanks to the cool and catchy slogans embellished on them. A Guns N’ Rose chainmail skirt has a conversation with a souvenir bomber jacket accented with an statement evil eye. A tuxedo shirt sits next to an ombre fringed halter top and an LBD with a silver bow detailing on the waist flirts with a shine-on houndstooth number. Every piece tells a story and exudes an easy chic vibe, which reflects the personal styles of the two ladies. Over to them.
SBN: It’s important to not spoon-feed anymore, women know their minds. It’s crucial to give them options and choices. We’ve seen so many people come in and pair things in so many interesting ways and we’ve learnt also. We understand our designs more through our customers. We wanted to keep things a little more easy, fun and glam because it’s party season. We wanted to give people a choice that you may want to team a chainmail skirt with a denim shirt and just bring about a cool relaxed aesthetic and get away from overdone and over made-up look. It’s about celebrations and travel at this time of the year.
MJ: We have taken it a notch up not just in terms of embellishments, but also styling. Today, we had quite a session and we had someone come in who had no clue, she was like, ‘Can I team a travel jacket with sequinned pants?’ That would have been a complete mess. So we had to tell her in a nice way, ‘no, you can’t do it’ and team it with something else.
MJ: We thought, let’s run a couple of seasons and then do a runway show.
MJ: Everyone is travelling these days and everyone wants a wardrobe when they travel also. Not many people want to spend time shopping when they go out. It’s nice to take some special pieces for flight time.
SBN: You can’t give someone a structured outfit for travel — that would be impractical. We believe in comfort. We test drive all our clothes — every zip and button.
