Playback singer Aaman Trikha recently had a prominent song release, Zinda in Salman Khan’s Bharat. Before that, he was heard in Namo Namo from Vivek Oberoi-starer PM Narendra Modi. In the past, he has had Go Go Govinda (Reprise) from OMG — Oh My God! (2012), Halo Re and Prem Leela (Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, 2015) and Butterfly (Jab Harry Met Sejal, 2017) among other big tracks. However, it’s the Acche Din Aane Wale Hai anthem for the BJP that he considers as the turning point of his career. Aaman says, “The kind of popularity that song gave me and the connect it had with the people made it that much more influential. When that song came out, it was being played everywhere on TV, radio, etc. It was a good achievement to have.” The singer tells us more...

How do you choose your projects? Any particular genre you are fond of?

The song has to choose me... (laughs) and not the other way round. I have always believed in whatever opportunities come my way, be it a rock song or a slow romantic song or a foot tapping dance number, classical song or a qawalli. I have never restricted myself to any genre. I catch the mood and vibe of that song.

After singing for leading actors, who are the stars you’d like to playback for next?

The song is the hero for me. A good track always stands out, irrespective of any star being associated with it. In Bollywood, if your song is associated with the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, then it goes the extra mile. I would like to sing for Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor. There are also many rising stars such as Vicky Kaushal and Kartik Aaryan who I would like to sing for.

What is your take on remakes and rehashing of old songs and where do you stand?

My stand has always been the same — the rehashed version should not play around with the original essence of the song. Remixes are encouraged because people are also listening to them. If listeners start rejecting them, there won’t be many of them. Bollywood music is going in the direction of rehashes and only 15-20 per cent is original, which needs to be encouraged more.

What are your upcoming projects?

There is one movie called Penalty, which stars Kay Kay Menon. It is a film based on football and is nicely-made. It has a philosophical song called Mann Ki Bas Tu Hi Jaanein. There are quite a few projects lined up.
