I enjoy intimate settings: Roger Sanchez
Roger Sanchez

After Mumbai and Bengaluru, Boiler Room is heading to Delhi. The self-proclaimed ‘online home of the underground’ gives an audience the chance to hear fresh dance music without setting foot in a club and even music that rarely gets played in a club.

Come May 9, Grammy-winning house music legend Roger Sanchez will take the console. Here’s what he shared with us in an email interview....

You’ve played at huge stages. Boiler Room is more of an intimate setting. What can the audience expect from your set in Delhi?

I actually enjoy intimate settings more than huge stages at festivals because you can feel the energy much more intensely and closer and Boiler Room is all about the close contact & connection with the DJ. I’m going to be doing a lot of on the spot remixing and merging classic vibes with current jacking grooves — expect a party vibe!

You collaborated with Denney on Unite, an anti-hate anthem. Do you think DJs need to speak up more on the subject?

I think EVERYONE needs to speak up against injustice and inequality. If there is an issue that is important then I believe that one should express it and do what they can. Change is only achieved with action even if it is a small one.

Any releases on Defected or any collaborations that we should keep our ears open for?

I have quite a few releases lined up on my labels Undr The Radr and Stealth as well as acollaboration with Ultra Nate coming out on Cajual. My next Roger Sanchez single is with Cari Golden called Work 4 It out on Stealth. I have collaborations in progress with Mihalis Safras, Mike Vale, Cocodrills and many other new talents – it’s looking like an exciting year in music!

Where do you think house music is headed in 2017?

I think house is delving back into its roots and rediscovering its soul. There are more changes to come but I love that the feel of the original house vibe is back. However, I always like to keep music moving forward. Taking that essence and reinterpreting it in a new mind frame is the way forward.
