Rick's Ramblings: Are we cheating or overlapping?
A situation that should be called 'overlapping'

This week, a friend met me over coffee and cake and asked a very interesting question - 'Is it cheating if the relationship is already dead (from both ends) and both of us are on our way out and suddenly you meet someone and he or she is perfect and you wanna start dating that person before the relationship is formally over? Is that cheating at all in any form, should I feel guilty?'

Well, in my opinion, it's not cheating or anything in that category at all, and being guilty for anything that feels good is just simply unfair to yourself especially about eating cake for breakfast or dating someone for that matter, I believe you should do everything that makes you happy and never feel guilty about it (unless you are a psychopath, who feels happy by torturing or killing people in that case this doesn't apply).

Anyway I would say this situation should be called 'overlapping', it's like serving a notice period in a job. You have quit your job and you already are, or you will be looking for a new job and your boss knows that too, you're sticking around only to finishing your handover, that's all, so your boss or your colleagues cannot be upset to know you got a new fantastic job in the middle of your notice period.

See honestly it's as simple as that, and I don't think there's a need to be all guilty and weird about it either. It's simple - we all know relationships end slowly but it dies way before it actually ends so why would it be wrong to start something when the previous relation is already dead but not gone.

Life is short to follow rule books and formalities of what to and what not to do, especially in matters of the heart. It's rare to find the perfect connection with people here, you found it once and sad it ended, but you are lucky you found it again and now that you did, letting it go to hold on to a technicality is totally unfair to yourself. You need to grab every opportunity of happiness you can find and never ever feel bad about it. .....
