Supriya Pathak to reprise her mother's role

Supriya Pathak is all set to reprise her mother’s (Dina Pathak) role  from Khoobsoorat in her upcoming serial Modern Bahoo. She will be playing the strict disciplinarian mother-in-law Umaben to the bubbly and charming bahoo Chanchan essayed by Sanaya Irani.

While Supriya agrees that the basic character is similar to what her mother portrayed in Khoobsoorat, she says that her character has a lot more shades to it. “She is kind of khatta meetha. There are various shades to her, she’s not a caricature, and I want to portray her as a very normal person,” says Supriya who is best known for her role as the dim-witted Hansa in Khichdi.  The actress is confident that her role as Umaben will also turn out to be as popular.

She however, feels that marketing and creating awareness of a show is  equally important for it to succeed. Her last show Alaxmi Hamari Super Bahu, which had her playing a dead woman who converses with her husband and his elder brother, went without a trace. “Very few people knew about the show. I think it did not get enough publicity. However, whoever saw it liked it,” she says.

Besides the serial, the actress will also be seen in Ram Leela and an international project White Lies directed by Danis Tanovic whose film No Man’s Land had won an Oscar.
