She took a break from films just when her career started to look promising. After acting in critically acclaimed films like Inthi Ninna Preethiya and Police Quarters, Sonu Gowda looked like she was well on her way to carving a niche for herself in Sandalwood. She had even bagged a couple of Tamil and Malayalam films early on in her career. But instead of making the big cut, the actor chose to tie the knot with her longtime boyfriend. But that was in 2010.
Cut to the present and Sonu is getting ready to face the camera again. “But I was never away from the entertainment world. In the past three years, I shot for a lot of commercials and that too with cinematographers like Sounder Rajan (Maattrraan), Om Prakash (Neethane En Ponvasantham) and Anil Mehta (Cocktail and Jab Tak Hai Jaan). It’s just that I was in no rush to do films. I’m very happy with the way my life is shaping up and Gadda Viji’s Kannada film Lalbagh coming my way has only doubled my joy,” says Sonu.
The film will see her enact the role of a TV reporter. “I was asked to study B.Com by my dad but given a choice I would have done a course in journalism. In fact if I ever decide to study again, I’ll want to take up a media course. So given my interest in the subject, I was thrilled when I was offered this character. I am a fan of Barkha Dutt and I am observing her mannerisms and attitude quite closely as I prepare for the role,” says the enthusiastic actor.
What has her even more kicked about the project is the fact that she will be acting with director Yograj Bhat. “This is his first film as an actor and I’ll be known as the heroine who shared screen space with him in it!” Sonu adds.
The actor is also considering two other scripts. “I am likely to sign another film in two weeks. I have realised that I cannot stay away from acting for too long. So I am looking at coming back full time and don’t be surprised to see me in a very glam avatar soon,” she says giving us a hint about her future plans.
