The senior actress talks about doing a special 'item number' in an upcoming film.

Actress Sarika will soon be seen playing an interesting cameo in Bejoy Nambiar’s upcoming film David. And what makes it interesting is that the cameo is actually a special dance number, which has been shot on the lines of a qawaali. Sarika, who admits to be thrilled with having done the dance number says, “The song Dumadum Mast Kalandhar, which is actually an iconic Sindhi song, happens to be my favourite. When Bejoy came up with the offer, I just couldn’t refuse.”

The actress reveals that the song has been presented with a different twist altogether. “Both my daughters Shruti (actor Shruti Haasan) and Akshara have seen the song and have loved it. They were calling it my item song.”

Laughing at the idea of it being an item number, Sarika adds, “Item number? Why not. You know, whenever anyone would ask me why I don’t attend awards events, I would always joke that it’s all about performing item numbers these days and now that I am doing one myself, maybe I will attend the next awards event and perform on stage too.”

On a serious note, she says, “For me, the song is simply an extension of the role. As an actor, we always want to be a part of a good film, so be it acting or dancing, I am game if I am convinced by the vision of the director.” As for her stint, Sarika shares that the look is very unique and interesting. “We wrapped it in half a day’s time and it was so much fun dancing in front of the camera again. Maybe I will do it again,” smiles Sarika.
