They were advised to provide concrete evidence in support of their allegations by 10.30 AM on 1.3.2018. They were informed that on receipt of such evidences, the Commission would, in consultation with the DoP&T, refer the matter to be enquired into by an independent Investigating Agency.”

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal backed the demand for a CBI enquiry.

He wrote on Twitter: “Thousands of students of SSC exam scam are demanding a CBI enquiry. This issue is tied to the future of thousands of students. The central government should listen to the demands of the students and order a CBI probe.”

Here is a 5-point guide to understand the SSC paper leak case:

1. The SSC CGL Tier II exams were held between February 17-21. However, the SSC cancelled the second shift of the exam at a centre after allegations of paper leak. The Combined Graduate-Level (CGL) Tier II examination for the remainder five days were conducted despite allegations of massive cheating and paper leak circulated.

2. After screenshots of question paper along with answers went viral on social media even before the exam was over, the SSC cancelled the exam held in morning shift on February 21. The students also claimed that the answers for several questions were marked in the paper. The candidates protested that the case has been a matter of irregularity.

3. The SSC then announced that the exam will be re-conducted on March 9. "The commission has received a few screenshots in the afternoon of 23.2.2018 of quantitative ability (paper-1) apparently taken on 21.2.2018 at around 12.30 pm belonging to a candidate namely Sachin Chouhan (roll number 2201281955). These snapshots are being circulated after about 48 hours of completion of the CGLE (Tier-II) Examination, 2017 and appear to be manipulated and would have no significance on the sanctity of the examination. Earlier also, at around 10.15 am on 21.2.2018, the commission received an information that some of the answer keys of paper I, to be held wef 10.30 am on that day of the examination, were being circulated on the social media/e-mails. The commission investigated into the matter and found that the claims were absolutely bogus and baseless," the SSC said in it's official statement.

4. Thousands of SSC aspirants, who learned about the leak through social media, gathered at the SSC office in CGO complex. They have been protesting against the leak since February 21 and demanded a CBI probe into the matter. They demanded a detailed probe into the matter. The SSC who is willing to form an SIT probe have angered the students since it is likely that the members of this will be the current employees of the SSC themselves and thus can lead to unbiased investigation.

5. The SSC Chairman in his reaction to the protests released an official statement on March 1 on the website. He said after meeting with the students, who carried printouts of the CGLE (Tier-II) 2017, to provide concrete evidence of the allegations. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also reacted to the protests and demanded a CBI probe in the matter.
