UPSC Prelims 2020: Important guidelines, exam day rules, shift timings for candidates

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will conduct the Civil Services Preliminary Examination across the country on Sunday (October 4). This year, more than 10 lakh candidates have applied for the Civil Services Examination 2020.

The examination will be held at 2,569 centers across 72 cities in the country. Earlier, the Civil Services Preliminary examination 2020 was scheduled for May 31, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission postponed it to its new date, which is October 4.

UPSC Prelims 2020: Date and time

The Civil Services Preliminary Examination will be conducted on October 4 in two shifts, i.e. from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Entry will be given at the examination center only 10 minutes before the commencement of the exam (09:20 am in the morning shift and 02:20 pm in the afternoon shift).

Transport facility for students

In view of the examination, the Cabinet Secretary and UPSC Secretary have provided transport facility to the candidates so that they do not face any problem in reaching the examination center.

Indian Railways has also decided to run several special trains across the country in view of the examinations.

COVID-19 instructions for UPSC candidates

Candidates are advised to follow the guidelines issued by the UPSC for the preliminary examinations being conducted amid the COVID-19 crisis.

1. It is mandatory for candidates taking the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination to wear a mask or face cover.

2. Candidates can carry sanitisers in transparent bottles in the exam hall.

3. Without a mask, no student will be given entry at the examination center.

4. Social distancing has to be followed everywhere, including the center, and examination hall/rooms.

5. Students will be given entry in the center up to 10 minutes before the start of the examination.

6. Candidates are advised to bring their photo ID card, whose number is given on the e-admit card, for appearing in the examination. Scribe's e-admit card will be issued separately for writing the exam.
