Patrick D'Souza was among the 20 candidates who scored 100 percentile in this year's common admission test, the results for which were declared on Monday. Despite the achievement, it was just another day for the Thane resident. The reason: D'Souza has hit the bull's eye for the fourth time.

Now a tutor, this was the 15th time D'Souza had taken CAT with the aim of learning.

The 41-year-old's first brush with CAT was in 1996 when he took the exam after completing mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology – Allahabad. D'Souza got a call from the Indian Institute of Management – Calcutta, but could not make the final cut.

D'Souza then bagged the third spot in the Maharashtra state level exam and got admission into Mumbai's Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, and graduated with an MBA degree in 2000. Four years later, he opened his own institute for CAT coaching and started appearing for the exam again.

"I wanted to give the exam not to get into any of the top management institutes but for my own sake. As a teacher, I wanted to keep myself updated with the changing paper styles each coming year and found it essential to write the paper as that was the best way to know the trends," he said.

D'Souza runs QUOIN coaching institutes in Dadar and Thane where he helps over two hundred MBA aspirants prepare for CAT, the gateway to prestigious Indian Institutes of Management and other top B-schools, every year.

Just like each passing year, he treats his success with ease. "It's just an exam which I have learnt to master. I am happy that every year I am learning something new. Giving the exams myself helps me teach students in a much better manner," said the father of a 5-year-old girl.
