With results of several competitive exams coming in, a lot of us often wonder about the duplication in the names of toppers across coaching institutes each one claiming that the topper belongs to their institute. The recently announced results of IIT JEE Advanced was one such example.

Poaching of students or rather buying students who have not been associated with one's institute has become a common practice today. Some coaching institutes often claim to have taught students who have in fact studied in other institutes by trying to offer them some material benefits.

This unethical practice has not just created a poor perception towards coaching institutes in the country, but has also created confusion among students and parents as they are unable to pick the best coaching institutes for them. Moreover, integrity of such students and their parents is also a big question.

Mohit Sardana, Director and Head of Mumbai territory, FIITJEE says that the trend is worrisome especially considering the impact that such practices have on the minds of young students who have just set out to make it big. "While some institutes might try to indulge in these unethical practices, students should resist such attempts of poaching. Parents too should not be lured into such practices. Doing this might encourage the child to indulge in wrong practices. No one knows if they may be encouraged to take bribes in the future, which would not be just for any profession that they take up," says Sardana.

He said that students should look at the values of an institute rather than falling prey to wrong tactics. "Parents and students should look at what values the institute has been following, and after selecting an institute, should stick to the choice. A talented student need not go to ten places in search of recognition. He would get the recognition from his achievements without resorting to any wrong practices. That would be the reward of true success. Success is easy, Keep things simple." he added.

This year, FIITJEE student Rahul Bhardwaj emerged as the Mumbai topper with AIR 20. All parents and students must remember a message that Rahul's father Paramananda gave while he was being felicitated by FIITJEE on Sunday. "Over the course of his preparation for JEE, we have only stuck to one coaching institute as we believe in its values and quality of teaching. Parents should ensure that they make the right choice for their child and stick to it. Students who join multiple courses are the ones who do not have faith in themselves and they end up nowhere" he added.
