Speculations are rife that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG 2021), which is scheduled to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on August 1, 2021, may get postponed amid a delay in the registration procedure. Usually, the application and registration procedure begins 60 days before the exams, however, this year, the process hasn't begun yet.

According to a report in the Dainik Jagran, experts have said that the registration process and allotment of exam centres take around 45 days. Even if the registration process is started today by the NTA they will consider giving candidates at least 25 days time to enrol themselves.

Also, once the registration is over the agency will need some time to process applications which will not be completed till July end. Therefore, it is most unlikely that the NEET 2021 can be held on August 1.

However, according to experts, since there isn't a deadline for conducting the NEET 2021, a date sometime later could also be announced by the NTA.

NEET UG exam is conducted for admission in MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, and BHMS courses. It is a pen-and-paper mode exam only and is conducted in 11 languages including Hindi and English.

Amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, many students have been hoping for NEET exams 2021 to be postponed. Citing the emotional and physical stress due to the coronavirus situation in the country students have requested NTA as well as Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' to defer the date of the exams.

Meanwhile, it is to be noted that JEE Main is held four times a year from the current academic session. The first phase was conducted in February and it was followed by the second phase in March. The next phases were scheduled for April and May but these were cancelled due to a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.

JEE Advanced 2021 exam, which is conducted for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and the National Institutes of Technology (NIT), was also postponed due to coronavirus pandemic. The exam was scheduled on July 3.
