The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is reviewing its textbooks and has sought feedback from teachers across states in this regard.

The council wants teachers to point out if there are any factual errors in their books, or if there are any suggestions with regard to concepts or presentation that they think should be added in the books.

“NCERT is reviewing its textbooks for Classes 1 to 12 in all the subject areas. In this regard, suggestions of the teachers from across the states/UTs are invited,” the council said in a communication to all states. “These suggestions may be given in two forms — factual error in the NCERT’s textbooks, if any, and suggestions, if any, with regard to content/concept presentation, etc,” it added.

The suggestions will be accepted till June 30, and incorporated by the boards while reviewing the books.

The NCERT reviews its textbooks once in a few years to update the latest concepts and theories in their books. The Central government has been pushing for making NCERT books mandatory in all schools, instead of private publishers.

However there has been resistance from private publishers who have even gone ahead and said that they will give an undertaking to schools that they will not publish anything ‘objectionable’ in their content.
