A 2,95,124 students registered themselves for various undergraduate courses under the University of Mumbai until Friday evening, which was the deadline to submit applications. The total number of applications received by the university was 8,95,796.

Commerce emerged as the top most choice for students with a total of 2,71,196 registrations for BCom. Specialised BCom courses like BCom in Accounts and Finance, Banking and insurance and Finance Management also saw a large number of takers.

The University extended the deadline of the pre-admission registration till June 21 for admissions to various undergraduate courses at its 800 plus affiliated colleges. The extension was made keeping in view the delayed HSC results this year. Students would have to complete their admission formalities after the cut off rounds begin.

A total of 74,417 students registered for the three year BSc course. 58,383 students registered for the three year BA programme until Friday. “There seems to be a huge demand for BCom and its specialised courses like banking and insurance and financial management. These days, students prefer specialisation in a finance subject before taking up a management course. The demand for arts also seems to have gone up with a large number of students interested in taking up Psychology and English literature in the third year,” said Hemlata Bagla, Principal, KC college, Churchgate.

The first merit list would be released at 5 pm on June 22. The entire admission process is expected to be over by July 5.
