The Medical Council of India (MCI) had last month barred students who completed their schooling from distance mode from taking the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical colleges.

As the decision is going to affect a large number of students, the Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar will on Wednesday hold a meeting in this regard with Union Health Minister JP Nadda to discuss the issue and come up with a possible solution.

MCI took this decision saying that students who complete schooling from distance mode do not have the same level of knowledge as regular students.

It was after the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) wrote to the HRD Ministry recently expressing concerns over the future of thousands of students, that the meeting between two ministers is happening.
