After three tough papers, class 10 students of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) had expected a much lenient set of questions in Math examination.

But on Tuesday, the students were stumped with the extremely difficult Math exam with tricky questions that would not allow them time to re-check the paper.

Students came out of the examination hall with a disappointed face and most referred the paper similar to the one asked in 2015. Math paper in the year 2015 too had created a controversy as few questions were out of syllabus and one question was wrong. The board officials had then considered giving grace marks to the students.

However, none of the students admitted for questions being asked out of syllabus but they agreed that the questions were not directly lifted from the textbook.

Kshiti Mulani, a student of Nirman high school in Vastrapur did expect the paper to be tough but the level of difficulty went beyond her expectation. Speaking about the paper, she said, “I would call the paper similar to the one that was asked in 2015, which had created lot of controversy due to the difficulty level. Since first three papers were extremely easy, I had expected the paper to be tough. The questions were not directly lifted from the textbook but twisted and too conceptual. Part A comprising of MCQ's was very tough and lengthy too.”

Another student Riya Lalwani was petrified after her paper. She said, “It was such a lengthy paper that I could not check my answers.”

A total of 16 copying cases were registered by the state board control and all students were class 10 students. Of 1058598 students registered for class 10 Math paper, 1036359 students appeared for the exam whereas of 133547 students registered for class 12 English paper, 133181 students had appeared for the exam. Of 122662 students registered for psychology class 12, 118853 students appeared.
