The state education department has clarified that there is no politics behind what is being debated as the 'erasure of Mughal history' in class VII history text books.

"There is a restructuring of the history text book this year which is why there is an emphasis on the history of Marathas. The syllabus is approved by a panel of subject experts and there is no question of politics here " said a senior official from the state education department.

This year the textbooks of class VII and IX were changed as per the revised syllabus in which some activists have pointed out that the history of Mughals has been reduced to a few lines while Shivaji and the history of Marathas has become a focal point.

The education department has however said that there is just an emphasis on local history which has led to more focus on Shivaji and the Maratha regime. "The Mughals are introduced as part of the Maratha history in keeping with the theme of the text book " said the official.
