Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday (January 6) revealed that the government is brainstorming on how early schools can be reopened in the national capital.
"Brainstorming is on for how early schools can be reopened in Delhi, especially for board classes as the dates for exams have already been announced," Manish Sisodia said while addressing a press conference in New Delhi.
Sisodia also said that, "our future strategy (on reopening schools) will depend on how early a COVID-19 vaccine is available for public after frontline workers are vaccinated".
Schools in the national capital are closed since March last year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. While a few states have partially reopened schools, the Delhi government had announced that schools will not reopen till a vaccine is available.
Sisodia announced that the Delhi government is organising an international education conference from January 11 to 17 on how should the education sector be in a post-COVID world.
The Delhi government has also planned to scrap nursery admissions for the year 2021-22 and instead propose two batches of nursery and kindergarten in 2022-23. However, the Delhi school principals are not in favor of scrapping nursery admissions for next year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic even as the government maintains that no final decision has been taken yet in this regard.
Meanwhile, schools in many states including Kerala, Maharashtra, Bihar, Puducherry have already reopened in January. The Punjab government has decided to reopen schools for classes 5 to 8 from tomorrow, January 7 onwards. The schools would be held from 10 am to 3 pm daily.
CBSE Board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 will be held from May 4 to June 10 while the practical papers will begin from March 1 and can continue till the beginning of theory papers. The CBSE results will be announced by July 15.
