Facing severe criticism over unemployability of engineers in India and the syllabus not being industry relevant, government has finally come up with revised curriculum for engineering and management courses across the country. In the revised curriculum, students will get credits for doing voluntary community service and working with consultancies on research projects.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), nodal body for technical education in the country on Wednesday formally launched the revised curriculum for Engineering and Management courses and it will be applicable from the academic session 2018-19. Devised by a team of experts that includes industry experts and professors from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) delves more on practical training rather than theory. In order to achieve this, credits have also been reduced from 220 to 160 and internship, which was earlier not a mandatory part of completing the course has been made mandatory.

Out of the 160 credits, the mandatory internship will carry 14 credits.
