Ranchi student Tushar Rishi's scored 95% in his CBSE Board Exams.  While this may seen normal, given that a number of students score 95%, Tushar's story is different. Tushar is a cancer survivor. "I am in a much better condition now after all the treatments. But I have to visit AIIMS in every 3 to 4 months for checkups and updates on my health", said Tushar on his condition. Despite no having extra coaching, he secured 95 in English, 95 in physics, 93 in mathematics, 89 in computer and 100 in fine arts, reported Hindustan Times

The turning point in Tushar’s life took place during his Class 10 when he was detected with bone cancer. He underwent Chemotherapy for 11 months. Though he came to know about the disease he was diagnosed with, he said, “It has obviously changed me a lot, but I try and stay focused on my academics.”He failed to appear for his 10th board exams in that same year but reappeared for the same in 2015 to achieve a perfect 10 CGPA score.

“I have seen him battle cancer and I know how difficult it was for him. I hope he stays healthy and achieves all his career goals”, said Tushar’s mother, Ritu Agarwal who is a professor in BITS Mesra. Tushar’s father Shashi Bhushan Agarwal works in the State Agriculture department. Unlike other science students, Tushar doesn’t want to pursue engineering but a graduation in either English or economics from the University of Delhi. Though he still fighting cancer, the strong hearted boy continues with his journey of life. 19-year-old Tushar, has also written a book called ‘The Patient Patient’, that describes his journey as a cancer survivor and how he maintained a positive attitude.
