Uttar Pradesh colleges, universities reopen with 50% attendance today after 8 months

Universities and degree colleges across Uttar Pradesh have reopened from Monday (November 23) after nearly a gap of eight months because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, only 50 per cent of the students will be allowed to attend at a time on a roster basis.

The Central University of Allahabad and its associated colleges have also re-opened with strict COVID guidelines in place.

The campuses of universities and colleges have been sanitized before the resumption of classes and wearing of face masks is also mandatory. Thermal checking is also being conducted at the entrance.

Students are extremely enthusiastic about resuming offline classes.

At National PG College in Lucknow, physical classes only started for postgraduate students. Undergraduate students may be called from the next month depending upon the situation, said Rakesh Jain, coordinator of the admission committee.

Jain said, “Students will be allowed only if they bring their parents’ consent letter. Classes will run both online and offline so that students do not miss out on lectures. We have sanitised our college premises thoroughly to ensure safety of the students.”

Teaching, however, will remain suspended at Lucknow University (LU) till November 25 because of the ongoing centenary celebrations as teachers were all engaged with other responsibilities, said LU spokesman Durgesh Srivastava.

Avadh Girls PG College decided to hold the first-year classes on Mondays, second year on Tuesdays and final year on Wednesdays. The same cycle will be repeated in the following days.
