A 28-year-old youth, wanted in connection with a number of robbery and theft cases, was on Tuesday stabbed to death by a group of men in Dwarka's Sector one. Police are trying to identify the murderers and multiple raids are being conducted.
The deceased has been identified as Avinash Kumar, a resident of Vijay Enclave in Dwarka. Kumar was married and is survived by wife and a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. He used to run a water purifier shop with his father. Kumar had about a dozen cases of robbery and theft cases registered against him, police said.
According to the police, it was around 4:30 pm on Tuesday when he and one of his juvenile friends had stepped out of their residential area to go to a nearby marketplace that Kumar got a call from a man known to him.
"His juvenile friend told the police that the man on the call asked Kumar to come to Dwarka sector one, to which he agreed. He said that Kumar was called in a park, where a group of men attacked him. As Kumar tried to escape, two or three men took out a knife and stabbed him. Seeing his friend bleed profusely, the juvenile also intervened but was thrashed. It was then that he started to raise alarm for help but the group left Kumar in a semi-conscious state and fled," said a senior police officer.
Police said that Kumar's friend first took him home, but as his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to the hospital, where he died later. The hospital then called up the police and a case of murder was registered."The juvenile has identified a few of the attackers as Vijay, Rashi, Raju among three others. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being checked to ascertain the sequence of the incident and efforts to nab the identified people are being made," the police added.
