A 23-year-old man from Gaya in Bihar was working on the 12th floor of an under-construction building in Faridabad when he lost his balance and fell, earlier this month. Despite the overwhelming odds, however, the youth not only survived but is recovering fast and was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.
Sudhir had met with the mishap on June 5. His colleagues immediately rushed him to a private hospital.
“He was brought to the hospital in a very serious condition. When he arrived, we discovered that he had no pulse, no blood pressure, and his pupils had dilated. We shifted him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and immediately started resuscitation to help him breathe,” said Dr Pankaj Zutshi, Senior Surgeon at the QRG Central Hospital and Research Centre.
Sudhir had multiple injuries in his abdominal area, chest, head, and intestines, besides multiple bone fractures. He was put on a ventilator but his condition started to deteriorate. So, as the last resort, the doctors decided to operate on him.
“During the surgery, four litres of blood was removed from his abdominal cavity. He was urinating blood, so bleeding from his liver and urinary bladder was controlled. It was a challenging surgery,” said Dr Prashant Bhatia, Intensivist and Head of the Critical Care Department.
After the surgery, Sudhir remained on the ventilator for over 15 days and as many as 63 units of blood and blood products were given to him. “I felt the fall but nothing more. I woke up in the hospital,” Sudhir said, after his miraculous recovery.
