The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on Monday decided to return the land to the farmers that it had acquired in 2009 as part of developing sector-18. It is the same land for which Bhatta-Parsaul villages had made headlines during the Mayawati regime when clashes had taken place between the police and farmers. The decision was taken by the Yamuna Authority Area during its 62nd board meeting.

According to authority chairman, it had allotted 3,700 plots in twin villages as most of the farmers didn't sell their land to them, hence the authority decided to return all land to the farmers and shift the plots to some other place. Sources, however, said it is an attempt to mount pressure on the farmers to sell their land to the authority.

"We have decided to release the land and cancel acquisition of about 3700 plots that formed a part of our proposed sector-18. These land pockets primarily belonged to farmers of Bhatta-Parsaul area and they have been refusing to accept the compensation. As most of them haven't taken any compensation, hence the land couldn't be acquired as well. Our development work is stalled because of the same, hence we have decided to do away with these plots" said Prabhat Kumar, YEIDA chairman.

Kumar further stated that the board has decided to give free land to NHAI near the zero point of Easter Peripheral Expressway and Yamuna Expressway. Around 97 hectares of land will be given to NHAI.

Other than this, the YEIDA board also agreed to extend Noida- Greater Noida Metro up to the Jewar Airport. The board also decided that the old allottees of sector 18, 20 would not be brought under the GST umbrella.

The YEIDA also adopted UP's IT and electronics policy under which large companies and manufacturers will be encouraged to set up their bases in YEIDA area.

The authority also approved that the farmers will be allowed to set-up gas godowns or petrol pumps on agricultural land after acquiring necessary permissions.

Kumar further informed that allottees will face no inconvenience because of this decision and they will be allotted plots in other sectors, making use of available land with the YEIDA.
