Domestic strife is being cited as the reason behind a 35-year-old man shooting himself in front of his two toddlers and wife in Shahdara late on Tuesday. Some sources said that though the couple fought often, the wife's illicit relationship with a cop might have acted as the last nail in the coffin.
Even on the day of the incident, the two had fought bitterly, the police said. The deceased, identified as Mohammad Haseen, woke up around 5 am for Sehri, according to the family members. He then took out his country-made pistol and shot himself. The other members in the house heard the gunshot and rushed in to find Haseen lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Consequently, the police were informed and a case was registered.

According to some family members, the Delhi Police constable who was probing the case got close to Haseen's wife and they developed an intimate relationship.
Haseen's sister confirmed that he had recently discovered his wife's affair. "He had also read their texts and chat messages, some of which were explicit. He had been disturbed since then, and following a heated argument last night, he ended his life," a senior police officer said.
DCP, Shahdara, Nupur Prasad said that the body has been sent for post-mortem and inquest proceedings are underway. "We are yet to verify the claims made by the family. Efforts are on to probe the case from all possible angles. A crime and forensics team was also rushed to the spot," she said.
Haseen is survived by his wife, and two sons, aged 3 and one year.
